Auchenflower and Stafford
Good communication, forming a foundation of trust and mutual respect.
I first met Cecily and Trevor (both busy Health Professionals) in the middle of the night, unblocking their drains. Years later they called me for some routine repairs to their home, which was suffering from years of hard wear bordering on neglect. One thing lead to another, repairing some rotten timbers, retaining walls, many small “do and charge” repairs, good advice, accurate and regular billing and transparency created a climate of trust. So when Cecily wanted to renovate their aged bathroom who did they turn to? SECOMB builders and plumbers.
To add to the difficulty, after several meetings, Cecily could not find time to make product selection’s, finally squeezing a trip to the TILE MOB selection centre on a rare morning off, then promptly signing off and leaving for 5 weeks’ vacation in USA!
Managing a renovation with absentee owners takes confidence and communication on both sides, real trust by clients in their contractor to interpret their wishes and instructions. From the before and after shots you can see, the bathroom turned out very well, so well that when renovations were needed at Cecily’s inherited maternal home, SECOMB builders again got the call.
But in a case of déjà vu, the time squeeze was on again, this time the roles reversed, with our own 2018 European trip planned, everything had to go to plan, and it did. Despite increasing scope to include a full bathroom renovation, add veneer matching Queensland maple plywood feature wall, new switchboard and earth wires to lights, all targets were met, budgets duly blown! But philosophical smiles all round from the owners and their son and daughter in law, who got back in to their Stafford home in time for the arrival of another grandchild. And the home is better for it, ready for another generation.
Once things settled down at Stafford, a second stage of repairs, rebuilding handrails, privacy screens, re-guttering and repainting externally, who else did Cecily call, but SECOMB builders and plumbers once again. In between times, we’d been busy refurbishing Cecily’s granny flat and building a huge library shelf system (25,000 books capacity for Trevor!) plus internal and external repaint at Auchenflower, a logistical nightmare, but by working with clients using a cooperative approach, their lives were enriched and home restored to pristine condition.
Why do clients like Cecily and Trevor keep returning?
We keep them happy, explain and recommend what’s best for the home (that’s usually best for the owner, sometimes even if they don’t know it yet!), adapt our advice and work scope to suit their busy lives, that’s how we’ve stayed on a steady course respected Builders over many years contracting.
